The Working Together event hosted by the Bolton Council of Mosques (BCoM) on Monday 12th March was well received by partner agencies. The event, held at the Holiday Inn was part of BCoM’s commitment to collaboration, unity and harmony in the Town and was hailed a huge success.

Maulana Mohammed Adam Chair of BCoM addressed the audience saying

The emergence of the BCoM is a natural expression of Muslim solidarity and a sign of growing maturity and confidence of Bolton Muslims. It is an initiative of the community, led by the community, for the service of the community. Our vision is to help develop a successful, confident, and self-conscious Muslim community that makes a full and valuable contribution to economic, spiritual and civic life in Bolton.

Working Together

BCoM contributes to Bolton through its youth, drugs, women’s and family areas of work. Engaging, supporting and delivering results with hard to reach groups.

Dr. Chandia also addressed the audience on community cohesion and integration. He said

Integration and cohesion are fundamentally about a very simple question, how we live together in all our diversity with our different backgrounds and beliefs and how we establish a sense of shared belonging for everyone. It is a question this country has faced time and time again in its history. With time humanity and tolerance have prevailed, we have found ways to live together: we draw strength form our diversity, and to unite behind a shared vision for the future. The choices we make today are about the future too and about the kind of a society we want to live in.

The event also paid tribute to Bernard Knight the Chief Executive of Bolton Council who retires later this month. BCoM congratulated him on his achievements, thanked him for his support and wished him a happy and long retirement.

Bernard Knight thanked BCoM and members of a distinguished audience of key people, for all their efforts in making his work meaningful as well as enjoyable.

Working Together

Maulana Mohammed Adam said the event was “an opportunity to share the Muslim community’s positive contribution to the town and indeed the country. The Muslim community contribute 37 Billion pounds to the British economy. We contribute financially, socially, spiritually and morally, but we only hear the negatives. We are committed to promoting harmony, respect and tolerance in our town and I believe working together we can make progress to this end”.

A number of guests commented on the excellent organisation of the event and the professionalism shown throughout.

Thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers, BCoMs 16 year old apprentice and master of ceremonies Zahra, and support from sponsors and guests, the event was a fitting tribute to partnership working in Bolton.

Working Together

‘Working together’ we can indeed look forward to a cohesive and strong ‘Bolton Family’.
