29th October 2008.

Young footballers from Moses Gate and Farnworth are going for goal this season as volunteers and parents join forces to take positive action in the area.

Bolton Council of Mosques have been working closely with the Moses Gate Community Action Team (MGCAT) to support them in establishing themselves as a voluntary group to kick start positive activities in the community.

Supported by the Bolton Council of Mosques, the MGCAT now have a training venue and football training equipment which attracts over 40 young people 3 times a week.

Tariq Aziz a local community volunteer and the Secretary of MGCAT said "It's brilliant to see some support given to us in Farnworth, this is what is exactly required for us to get young people mixing together and off the streets."

The MGCAT have recruited young people from all backgrounds and probably is one of the most diverse football teams in Bolton.

Inayat Omarji BCoM Children and Young People Manager said "It's great to see the enthusiasm from the parents and volunteers who have been working with us for over a year to make this a success. This part of the Farnworth and Moses Gate community has seen some terrible publicity and young people getting involved on the wrong side of the law, we are actively involved in community cohesion projects across the borough and this is one of them."
