Catch of the Day for Girls at the BCoM
Women & Girls

The Bolton Council of Mosques have been working in partnership with the Sport, Health and Inclusion Services and the Environmental Agency to run fishing sessions for young girls from the BME communities.

A number of sessions took place at Bradshaw fisheries targeting young girls from different areas of Bolton to take part in this sport, building on the success from last year.

The young people who took part in this pilot project had never considered doing fishing and always thought it was a sport and activity that old people did. However by having the opportunity to take them out changed their minds.

Thana Haq (10 years )who also attended the trip said "It was was brilliant! I didn't want to touch the maggots first but I got used to it and I caught a a lot of fish."

We are looking to further promote fishing and the opportunities and are considering week long courses for next summer for young girls from the BME communities.

The Bolton Council of Mosques have been working with BME girls to empower them and building their confidence by taking them out on many outdoor excursions and by working with them on different projects. The work is funded by Bolton Councils Children Services. To find out how you can volunteer and get involved, contact us on 01204 363680.
