The event, part of the One Bolton Festival organised by the Bolton Interfaith Council, Bolton Council of Mosques, Hindu Forum, Christian Cohesion and various other groups in the borough to promote partnerships and the positive multi-cultural image of the town came alive on Saturday 19th June 2010.
Victoria Square under the shadows of the town hall saw some fantastic programmes from the various religious and culturally diverse communities of Bolton, with Bolton Council of Mosques volunteers and staff putting a football skills and presentation of the One Bolton interfaith football tournament, insight to Islam and with personalised calligraphy art and henna the most popular seeing long queues throughout the day.
Chan Parmar, one of the organisers, said: “It was a fantastic event and people were saying it is the best one yet. The weather really helped and there were so many people joining in, it was a great carnival atmosphere.”

Mr Parmar added: “More than 25 organisations were involved in making the event a success and more than 80 volunteers helped out on the day and we could not have done it without them. “It is fantastic that we as a town can come together and celebrate such events and break down the barriers and learn more about different cultures. It is community cohesion at its best.” |
