Young people aged 15-21 years from Bolton took part in an intense citizenship course organised by the Bolton Council of Mosques. ![]() The one day course took place in the half term holidays on separate days for boys and girls. The course content covered domestic violence, extremism, voting, drugs and street crime. The event was targeted at supporting people from the different communities to develop their understanding around these topics. The purpose of the programme was to help individuals widen the knowledge required to be a positive citizen. Support and sessions were delivered by different organisations which include Project 360, Greater Manchester Police, Councillor Sufrana Ismail and Councillor Ebrahim Adia.
A young mum of who is currently studying at the University of Bolton completing a degree course in Community Studies, who attended the day, said I found the citizenship course really interesting. It was very interactive with a lot of activities to do, and because it was in the half term holidays I didn't have childcare problems either. I found it very useful when Project 360 came and delivered their session and we had a feel of what situation a person would be in if they had too much alcohol; it was a real eye opener. Lunch, refreshments and training material was provided to each participant and there were no financial obligations. Each participant took part in practical demonstrations, and received a certificate in recognition of the commitment that they have shown in attending the session and the awareness they have gained.
