The Big Hope is a Global Congress for young people aged 18-35: it is especially targeted at young people of faith who wish to make a significant contribution to their communities and societies. The Congress already has Delegates and speakers from more than 35 countries, including, to mention some Muslim examples, India, Lebanon, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine/Israel, Yemen and many more.

The Congress is here at Liverpool Hope University from 4-11 June 2008.

It has three overarching themes: the creation of a more humane global society; integrity in public life; and the responsibility of the individual to contribute to the common good. It will examine those themes in five contexts:

  • Arts and Culture
  • Business and Trade
  • Education; Environment
  • Global Co-existence
The exciting news is that the Department for International Development has decided to sponsor 100 Scholarships for young Muslim men and women from the UK to be Delegates and to meet with these excellent young people from all round the world. A scholarship is worth £250, towards a total cost for the week of £300 (including full board standard accommodation) or £400 (including full board en suite accommodation).

The accommodation is in our University Halls of Residence, and single gender accommodation blocks will be available. There is a programme of (mainly Christian) 24/7 prayer running through the Congress, including one room for persons of all faiths and life stances, but male and female Muslim prayer rooms will also be available.
