Working Together Event 2008
Reports

The Working Together event hosted by the Bolton Council of Mosques (BCoM) on Thursday 4th December 2008 was very warmly received by partner agencies.

The event, held at the BCOM Offices on Vicarage St. Bolton, was part of BCoM’s commitment to collaboration, unity and harmony in the Town.  Maulana Mohammed Adam, Chair of BCoM, addressed the audience saying
The emergence of the BCoM is a natural expression of Muslim solidarity and a sign of growing maturity and confidence of Bolton Muslims. It is an initiative of the community, led by the community, for the service of the community. Our vision is to help develop a successful, confident, and self-conscious Muslim community that makes a full and valuable contribution to economic, spiritual and civic life in Bolton.

BCoM contributes to Bolton through its youth, drugs, women’s and family areas of work. Engaging, supporting and delivering results with hard to reach groups.

Maulana Mohammed Adam went on to say

The event is an opportunity to share the Muslim community’s positive contribution to the town and indeed the country. We contribute financially, socially, spiritually and morally, but we only hear the negatives. We are committed to promoting harmony, respect and tolerance in our town and I believe working together we can make progress to this end.

Chief Executive of The Bolton Council, Sean Harris also addressed the audience expressing his support and endorsed the partnership working that BCOM has created with the voluntary, statutory and business communities. Jennifer Leeming, Bolton Coroner, also emphasised on the importance of Working Together, the result of which has lead to a ground breaking protocol allowing the use of MRI scanning as an alternative to invasive post-mortems in suitable circumstances.

This unique service, the first of it kind in the UK, was the outcome of successful partnership working with the Coroner and her team in Bolton. The evening also raised £500 for the Mayors Charity, Derian House Children's Hospice.
