Statement for the arrest of Bolton man under the Terrorism Act.
Press Release Arrest of Bolton Man under the Terrorism Act The Bolton Council of Mosques (BCoM) has been inundated with numerous expressions of concern from community leaders in respect of the arrest of a prominent local community leader. The community is in a state of deep shock and amazed that such a well-respected member of the local Muslim community has been arrested under the Terrorism Act. The local community point out that the concerned individual, whose health is very fragile, has a long and distinguished history of community service, is a committed champion of cohesion and has long promoted and fostered civic engagement and social responsibility. Indeed, because of his work in the community many young people have hugely benefited from his guidance precluding their involvement in anti-social activities. In this context, his arrest under the Terrorism Act appears to be inconsistent with his character and personal values. BCoM acknowledges that this is an on-going investigation and appreciates that the police will need to conduct its investigation. However, BCoM has urged the Police to deal with this matter as soon as possible and has increased its effort to maintain community cohesion in our town.
