Female Study Circles

The Bolton Council of Mosques would like to invite all women to be a part of their new study circle exclusively for women. Meeting once a month on a Sunday, it will be the ideal opportunity to come together and discuss Islamic issues in a friendly, non-judgemental environment.

The next session will be on Sunday 27th July 2008 5pm - Venue: 1 Vicarage Street,(off Cannon Street), Bolton, BL3 5LE

The Arabic word for study circle is Halaqa, and this form of meeting is in keeping with a long-practised Islamic tradition. A "halaqa" is a method for education which appeared since the begin of the Islamic da'wa. The companions (and those who came after them and followed their path) used to have sessions for educating each others. Abdullah ibn Rawaha (r) used to ask the companions to: "Let's believe for one hour." By this he meant: let's have a session of knowledge or remembrance for one hour to increase our belief in Allah (S). The Prophet (S) said about these sessions that "Ibn Rawaha loves the meetings which the angels pride themselves on."

The aim is to allow Muslimahs to join together for study and learning with an interactive approach. For instance, a specific topic will be chosen prior to the meeting and some members of the circle will be allocated to prepare a short presentation listing the basic Islamic beliefs. The session will begin with a short tafseer (as requested at the open session we held), followed by the presentation. A discussion will then take place about this topic, with members of the circle each welcome to provide their views and opinions. These sessions really keep you on your toes because of the active participation.

Halaqa is much, much more structured than an open chat session, and makes efficient use of your valuable time in learning this deen (way of life of a Muslim). It also will help you discuss issues that matter to you, all via an Islamic perspective.
So come along and bring your friends. Remember, you can choose what we discuss so please come along and participate.

Although it is not necessary to register before attending, it would be much appreciated if you could, as it will help with making the arrangements.
